Incidentally detected cancer of Gallbladder
It means cancer was found in the gallbladder when it was removed for gall stones or infection (cholecystitis). Once the gallbladder is removed it should be sent for pathological examination. This is one of the commonest ways that cancer in gallbladder is found.
Gallbladder cancer is very aggressive if not treated within the optimum time with a combination of surgery and chemotherapy.
After detecting cancer of gallbladder, a surgery(completion radical cholecystectomy) should be done within 2 months. Delaying surgery may result in disease increasing and spreading. Chemotherapy is almost always recomended and typically given for 4 months after surgery. Curative and complete treatment is the best chance for cancer free life.
Always ask your doctor for the pathology report after a laproscopic or a open cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal surgery) to know if gall bladder was normal or otherwise.
